Last weekend I finally stoped procrastinating on my spring travel plans and booked a trip to my former home, Chicago, the place I still view as my hometown.
It has been 3 years since I have been back to Illinois. I haven’t really had much of a reason to go back since my sister left the state, so my last family holiday was at her place in North Carolina. But now, I get to go back to my home state.
Sure I had thought about going to Southeast Asia for my spring travel, but ultimately decided to return to Illinois, the land of Ryan.
Besides bringing my girlfriend with me, and introducing her to my Mom (she already meet my Dad here in Seattle a few months ago), this also gives me the chance to show her where I am from, and the places I hung out at in my youth.
Additionally, I managed to score Hamilton tickets, something I certainly could not do in Southeast Asia, and giving me something else to look forward to on this trip.
Sure, Illinois is not really where I was expecting to go a month or so ago, and ideally I will still be leaving the country again for my fall trip, but I am looking forward to getting back to Illinois a lot more that I thought I would be.
